In China's logistics enterprises, small and medium-sized logistics enterprises account for the vast majority. These enterprises are basically transformed from traditional transportation and warehousing enterprises, and the application of information systems is not universal. Statistical data show that at present, less than 10% of the 10 million small and medium-sized enterprises in China implement information technology, and even some enterprises still use pure manual operation. The introduction of new standards has put forward a very urgent requirement for SMEs to implement information technology, and also injected a catalyst for SMEs to change from traditional warehousing enterprises to modern ones.

According to the survey, the service provided by small and medium-sized enterprises in China is still simple and warehousing-oriented. Compared with the service content and means of third-party logistics enterprises in developed countries, the service content and means of logistics enterprises in China are not only too simple, but also, more importantly, in logistics information service, order management and inventory management. In terms of logistics cost control, logistics scheme design and supply chain management, most of the small and medium-sized enterprises in China have no or no ability to develop logistics value-added services based on logistics management software.

Shen Guokang, president of Boke Information, a large domestic supplier of logistics supply chain management software, pointed out that under the circumstance that information technology has not been widely used, the services that logistics enterprises can provide are relatively single, and the competitive advantage of logistics enterprises can only be reflected through the improvement of their logistics facilities and the decline of their price level. This low-level price competition will affect enterprises'trust in logistics service enterprises, thus affecting the expansion of logistics market scale and the long-term development of enterprises.

From the current experience, the main sign of the application of information technology in logistics field is to develop logistics management software based on the needs of logistics activities, which is supported by a large number of information technology. However, the application of logistics software in China's logistics field is generally backward. Compared with logistics enterprises in developed countries, with the support of information technology, logistics services and business scope have shifted to logistics management and operation in the whole process of supply chain, providing logistics solutions and integrated logistics services for upstream and downstream enterprises of supply chain. The backwardness of information technology in modern logistics supply chain will become a major weakness hindering the development of small and medium-sized companies in China.

Through the rational use of supply chain management software, enterprises can effectively reduce inventory and cost; integrate all business links, coordinate synchronous business activities, achieve real-time information exchange, ensure information transparency between all links; realize personalization and differentiation in the process of business application; redefine the business mix of logistics at will. To meet the requirements of shippers or specific requirements of certain industries, to serve customers at a small cost, to achieve the long-term goal of optimizing logistics supply chain resources and improving the long-term competitiveness of enterprises.  At present, if small and medium-sized logistics enterprises want to increase their competitiveness in logistics supply chain, they must first pay enough attention to the importance of logistics management software.
